Please read this disclaimer carefully before using PocketPetCare. It explains the limitations of this service so you can use it safely and appropriately.
PocketPetCare is an informational platform — not a veterinary service
PocketPetCare provides general information about pet health, nutrition, and behavior. We are not a veterinary practice. We do not diagnose, treat, or prescribe for your pet. Nothing on this platform should be interpreted as veterinary medical advice specific to your pet's situation.
AI responses have real limitations
The AI that powers PocketPetCare is a general-purpose language model. It can draw on a broad range of veterinary knowledge, but it cannot examine your pet, run tests, or account for every detail of your pet's history. AI responses may be:
- Inaccurate or based on outdated information
- Incomplete — the AI does not know what it does not know
- Not appropriate for your specific pet given breed, age, or health history
- Confidently stated even when the underlying information is uncertain
Never rely solely on an AI response for a serious health decision.
Expert consultations also have limits
When you request an expert consultation, a veterinary professional reviews the information you have shared and provides general guidance. However, even expert responses on this platform:
- Are not based on a physical examination of your pet
- Cannot replace in-person clinical assessment
- Should be treated as general guidance, not a diagnosis or treatment plan
No veterinarian-client-patient relationship (VCPR) is established
A VCPR is a formal relationship established when a licensed veterinarian examines your pet in person, takes responsibility for clinical judgments, and becomes your pet's attending veterinarian. No feature of PocketPetCare — including AI responses or expert consultations — creates a VCPR. Without a VCPR, a veterinarian cannot legally prescribe medication for your pet in most jurisdictions.
Always consult a licensed veterinarian
PocketPetCare is a starting point for learning and a supplement to professional care — never a replacement for it. If your pet is ill, injured, or you are concerned about their health, please consult a licensed veterinarian. Use this service to help you ask better questions and understand what you learn, not to avoid professional care.
Pet emergencies: call a vet immediately
If you believe your pet is experiencing a medical emergency, do not wait for an AI or expert response. Contact your nearest emergency veterinary clinic immediately. Signs of an emergency may include difficulty breathing, seizures, collapse, suspected poisoning, severe injury, uncontrolled bleeding, or sudden inability to walk.
Keep the number for your nearest emergency vet accessible at all times — not just when something goes wrong.
Liability
PocketPetCare and its operators are not liable for any adverse outcomes — including harm to your pet — resulting from actions taken or not taken based on information provided through this platform. This includes AI responses, expert consultations, and any other content on the Service.
By using PocketPetCare, you accept these limitations
When you create an account and use this Service, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this disclaimer, and that you accept full responsibility for any decisions you make based on information provided through PocketPetCare. You agree to use this Service as a supplement to — not a substitute for — professional veterinary care.
